Yesterday we waited until late afternoon and took a small trip to the nearby regional park. We found some perfect trees for her to begin to learn how to climb them. At first, she needed assistance but she was eager to continue to learn. I love being there. Living in the suburbs, you need an escape where there are more trees to explore, more life around you other than people, more textures, more sights, more sounds from nature itself. Climbing on her own a blackbird seems to wonder I like to believe these three are chatty sisters, talking non stop about others around the pond and all the strangers without feathers who come by.. a little ghostie i drew on fallen bark a moment of triumph and respite

Summer has this girl with me all the time, which is no problem except when she wants to do a million crafts every minute :) A few weeks ago I had her glue loose earl grey tea onto a little drawing and we made 'Mr Earl Grey'. His beard smells pretty good too! Monday we were drawing and coloring and I began a 'bark' painting that I would attach to a tin can and then punch holes to make a lantern.
Finally it was dark enough to try out our new little celestial lantern I made for her. With put our hedgehog jar votive on first and then the new one.. we love things with soft fire glows...especially a little owl lantern I made a few weeks ago. She has fun walking around with it pretending to be looking for people..

Last week Natalie went to her first Vacation Bible School hosted by Bethel Grace Baptist Church. She had sooo much fun as did I in helping her get ready for the days. Tuseday was crazy hair day and that was the most fun. I braided her hair several times and spray painted it blue, fun! Of course when she came home, she had to keep it and have more blue in her hair! Wednesday the kids had to dress as their class animal. Natalie's Kindergarten class were the Elephants, so here she is :) They had wacky water day and the last day was come as an explorer. She took her own 'explorer' bag with her. That night was the closing ceromony where all the kids sang for us and after the program, they had bouncers and live animals too. What a great week indeed...

my little owl finally 'landed' on me to stay with me always. this is my third inked work on me. my first is on my upper back, a verse from psalm 43:3 in Hebrew. it says, 'o send out thy light and thy truth, let them lead me'. the second my dear friend and i went together and had a lotus symbol i drew put on different places (her wrist and my ankle). now, my little owl. it took me a long time to get him and a long time to draw the perfect, simple little owl. i am very happy, so happy in fact that i started folklora ink...come and see...

Can you spot the tiny spider?
Natalie found this little grasshopper. I took the above photo, she took the one below. More things growing. Some might be my seeds and some might just be more weeds :)
The other Nat and I decided to do a few crafts centering on apples. The first of course, was apple printing! I cut an apple in half and she had fun painting it red or yellow and then stamping it on paper over and over. The night was still early and we had a few brown paper bags my dad had with the take out food. I told her this would be a great recycling craft idea. We filled the paper bag with pages of a catalog from a recycle bin, twisted the top and she set off to paint it red and brown. After we glued to leaves also from the catalog and presto! Paper bag apple :) The next day we still had apples in mind so we made a little tin bank for my friend's daughter who we call apple cheeks. It resembles a strawberry a bit more especially after I added apple seeds around Nat's drawing of our little friend :) We also made a paper pumpkin too!

It's been awhile since I have updated about our little plants and such so I thought I would! Here are the very first seeds we planted, our little lavender. Though it will be awhile until we will see those pretty purples, it already has a faint smell of lavender! My borage definitely has courage! After our trip to Monterey I got sick and was put out for a few days. Those days were vital and some of our plants suffered for it including the borage. Thankfully it's coming back but I can't say the same for some of nat's little buds in her teacup garden and for our cerinthe and sage. I planted new cerinthe seeds and am still trying to get the sage back up, so we will see. These are the two that are doing quite well in her teacup garden (too bad I have forgotten what've I planted where!) I can always go back and look to see though.. Calendula, almost looking it was a bit lost too but is doing much better. Remember our little silver mist plant we bought? well, it's grown and looks happy too! And I can't forget Natalie's Hawaiian Tomatoe Plant with nice green little orbs (she is delighted!) Now to the part of my entry where I am not too sure what what is (does that make sense?) We have begun to plant seeds directly in the soil now and since we have been watering more because of the seeds, weeds are sprouting too. SO this is where I need help if any one is knowledgable in plants, herbs, flowers and/or weeds. One of the first little tin container seeds we planted was lupine (russell brand). After doing really in the container, the three that had sprouted started wilting. I replanted them straight into the soil (and then found out that they don't really like being transplanted) and only one sprout has survived. Now if you look closely to the right of the photo (a bit out of focus too) there are two sprouts. I am not sure what they are especially since most sprouts I have seen (which isn't too many I must confess) all seem to come out with the two little leaves opposite each other. The next little sproutling is where I threw a few moonflower seeds that had been soaked already and was not doing well (or taking waaaay too long) in Nat's egg carton container. I am not sure if this little stalk is from that or from a weed. In this next photo, we planted a few black hollyhock seeds (the watcherman) but I did not mark the ground as to exactly where. There seems to be three different kinds of things growing there, I just hope one of them is the hollyhock. The next two photos are where we planted apricot sunflowers and mark the ground after we made the seed markers. I am not sure if it's the sunflowers growing or something else. This next one are clovers growing and something else, can anyone tell me what? This is also by where I threw a few moonflower seeds. The last photo is a little tree/bush we have and yet another unidentified sprout growth. If anyone knows what any of these are or might have an idea, please feel free to let me know! :)
we saw it last night and i liked it, i have to, it's harry potter! hagrid accompanied us as he has since the first film was released. i am very happy i re-read the half-blood prince before i saw the movie. it helps with all the scenes they do not show and for the scenes they tweak because they think it will make for better entertainment value. some scenes i wish they didn't change and would have just stuck to the brilliance of ms. rowling's original writing. i just wonder how people do it who have not read the books and miss so much vital information that gets left out most of the time. well, i look forward to seeing what they do in conclusion and how they expect to tie all the loose ends. j.k. rowling did it impeccably, i don't know how close to perfection they movie business can get. i hope they do her right by it.

It's friday, mid-morning. I don't know what it is about summer, but I love it because it opens the door for my thoughts for autumn. It's a little nostalgic for me, and magical too. It's something that happens to me every summer. Today is a lazy day which I am thankful for. After this, I'll polish the girls toe nails and we will lounge, maybe do a craft and maybe fix the beds too! So for this friday I thought I would do another fawned fridaywhich I haven't done in awhile. I'll do it with photo favorites of mine from flickr (I love that site!) Just click on the photos for photo credit... To Summer by William Blake O thou who passest thro' our valleys in Thy strength, curb thy fierce steeds, allay the heat That flames from their large nostrils! thou, O Summer, Oft pitched'st here thy goldent tent, and oft Beneath our oaks hast slept, while we beheld With joy thy ruddy limbs and flourishing hair.
Beneath our thickest shades we oft have heard Thy voice, when noon upon his fervid car Rode o'er the deep of heaven; beside our springs Sit down, and in our mossy valleys, on Some bank beside a river clear, throw thy Silk draperies off, and rush into the stream: Our valleys love the Summer in his pride.
Our bards are fam'd who strike the silver wire: Our youth are bolder than the southern swains: Our maidens fairer in the sprightly dance: We lack not songs, nor instruments of joy, Nor echoes sweet, nor waters clear as heaven, Nor laurel wreaths against the sultry heat.
a few new places and other things I am liking... I just finished reading The Jungle Books by Rudyard Kipling and am completely fascinated by his writing. Everything is so vivid, so colorful, so beautiful almost like poetry. The way he describes the different lives of those around and in the jungle is just so magical. I definitely recommend especially for summer. I also finished Wicked Plants: The Weed That Killed Lincoln's Mother and Other Botanical Atrocities by Amy Stewart. Fascinating and interesting facts about various plant life around the world. I really enjoyed the illustrations and it's just good to know the whole nature of plants. I don't feel like I've been deterred by it but just having more knowledge of plants is a good thing. Now that I have finished these books I have finally begun the almost 800 pages of Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke. I know it's lengthy, probably the biggest read I have tackle in years but so far it's engaging. I just have to steal more time for reading.
The days of summer have been beautiful and surprising not overly hot. I've started volunteering a bit at Caring for Life USA by watching the kids of my two friends who work there. Today I got the kids (including Nat) outside to begin a little yard work so that we can start a garden soon. We also did some chalkboard drawings and hopscotch. After lunch we had art time. I drew a few owls (one for me and several for the kids to color in) along with aliens and some woodland creatures. We had a lot of fun today and I am thinking of things we can do for when I go again next week.
I also wanted to share some photos from some of my internet friends. Violet Folklore are one of my favorite two gals I've meet 'online' because of their love for the outdoors, vintage things and herbal goodness. Here are a few of my favorite photos from them...
They have so many more flickr photos they post on their blog that I am completely in love with. I could just live in these photos; the clothes and the settings for ever! I will be sharing more photos and things from others since I am still camera-less (aside from my camera phone, which the above photo was taken with).

Today was a much better day for the bubelah and I. We went out into the sun and dirt to plant a few seeds and afterwards made a few markers for them. I managed to take some photos from my phone (yay for camera phones) so you can see what we did today. I drew the flowers of the seeds we planted and she colored them in. I wrote the names on the back of the papers and just laminated over the paper on top of popsicle sticks. We made markers for california poppy, apricot sunflower, moonflowers, nigella and cosmos. She wanted to keep doing crafts and I suddenly remembered about some dried ginger root I had bought at the farmer's market several weeks ago. I loved their strange shapes and just reminded me of little friendly root monsters. She loved the shapes too and we decided to make a necklace out of one. She picked the one that looked like a flower to her. I made a whole in it with a knife and she painted it violet and green. Once it was dried, we put them string in and added the beads. Instant necklace :) I have one root that I am drawing on with pen ink. I can't wait for it to be finished because it's just so different and quirky. We also made hair gel out of flaxseeds using Rebecca Crapabble's old fashioned flax hair gel recipe. Natalie helped me put the fir needle essential oils in it and it smells so good! The consistancy is so fun too because in the bottle it still looks like liquid but as you pour you can see that it's gelatinous. After I showered I put some on and now that my hair is dried, it feels springy and soft. Natural and recession friendly too! Today was pretty productive with always more things to do than gets accomplished, of course but now I am just completely thrilled that Nat has her first tooth becoming loose! Exciting, now I have to come up with a tooth fairy box/bag craft to come up with and do! You might like these stories:
what was left thereWednesday morning and the girl and I are doing much better since we caught a little summer bug of a cold (and a bit of a fever for her). The camera I had been so graciously loaned I think really did breathe it's last and I finally uploaded the last few pictures that were still on it. I don't know what I will do with out a camera, especially because I like to remember things and share things. Hopefully I won't suffer too much and hopefully this blog won't either :) With that said, the last photos from the little red camera that I would like to share :) I won a great blog giveaway a few weeks ago from Karen Davis, the wonderful and magical mind behind her Moonlight and Haresartwork. She has such a lovely blog and I couldn't believe I won! She sent delightful cards with wonderful storytelling art from Roger la Borde (and I like that his cards are printed on paper from managed Scandinavian Forests) along with this beautifully made wooden polar bear hanger complete with little buttons and bells. It's perfect for my little bubelah who of course, is my little polar bear! It is in her room now :) I also made a little purchase last week from The Social Cellar and I was so pleased with their presentation. I absolutely love my necklace and earrings and have been wearing them both since! I wish I had better photos but maybe another time :) And last, a few drawings I have done as of late. The first is the moon, playing with her dear animal constellation friends. This has been tea stained and fire burned around the edges. I really enjoy the effects it makes. The second piece is a little summer sprite. I think she is sweet faced and would make a cute little doll, if only I really knew how to sew! I would whip up one of these little fairies right away! This is a close up of the drawing, which is also fire burned. Both pieces are in the etsy shop. I've also started up an artfire shop, to see how it is. I've put up several of my first postcards there. If you are interested, it is at littlebighead.artfire.com. You might like these stories:
leaving the coast Coming back home we took the coast and I was perpetually delighted at all the forestry and beauty. All I could do was just dream and take a few photos from inside the car. I also had some time to finish re-reading Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince before the movie is released.

monterey take two... Our second day at Monterey we returned to the aquarium but decided to park in a residential area not too far away from it. I wish I had more time in the town because there are so many houses and buildings that I just fell so hard for! Beautiful!
Oh the breeze! Returning to the street we were parked, we decided to take a peek into two consignment stores there. Once we left we also passed a Goodwill where we absolutely had to go to! While I was looking at the dresses my dad picked out this coat for me and he was so thrilled!! He said, look at it, it's all you and only 16 dollars and he was right! What a perfect fit and in such great condition! You will see my sporting this come fall and winter :) Natalie also picked out a top for herself, channeling her inner boho spirit it seems! And two more of my finds: this fabulous scarf for three dollars and change and these flats for five dollars and twenty five cents! Yay for thrifting and yay for Monterey!
